What an Evaluation May Consider
Depending on the property and concern, an evaluation can consider floor elevations, cracks, doors and windows, exterior conditions, drainage, foundation type, crawlspace conditions, prior repairs, and other structural observations.
Prepare Before the Visit
Photograph changes you have noticed, note roughly when they appeared, identify rooms or exterior areas that concern you, and gather any prior repair or engineering documents you have.
Ask for the Reasoning
A useful recommendation should explain what was observed, what movement pattern was identified, why the proposed method fits, and what areas are not being recommended for repair.
When Independent Engineering Can Help
Complex structural conditions, conflicting recommendations, unusual construction, or situations requiring design judgment may warrant evaluation by a qualified structural or geotechnical engineer.
